A professionally designed email template can help you make the most of your email marketing campaign and deliver results that will be hard to attain via a simple message containing nothing but texts and links. However, you need to remember the following points when designing a template or your emails will continue to fall flat like the majority of emails reaching your inbox on daily basis.

Should blend with your website or business logo:

If you’ve got a website, designing the template should be straightforward; as you can simply take the color combination, font, and headers from the website. Even if you haven’t got the website, your email template must blend well with your business logo, as far as colors, font, and overall feel is concerned. The template should look like a leaf out of your business book, instead of a totally independent entity.

Must carry a professional look:

Make sure that you are not leaving the professional approach while trying to make it appear a little more enticing and appealing. Do not include a lot of images, graphics, bold colors, or sketchy font or it may backfire. In other words, it’s ok to try and add a little graphical spice but try not to make it fiery for the eyes of readers. Also remember, that many people don’t have “show images” option enabled, so you must make a template that will look fine even if the images don’t show up.

Should be a little customizable:
A perfect email template has got to be a little customizable so that you can add/remove boxes or some sections to give it a different look every now and then, without having to make many changes to the code. When we talk of customization, we are talking about the customizability for someone with little or no knowledge of codes, because in most cases, it will be a PR or Internet Marketing representative working on the contents and needing the help of the developer/designer every time they need a change, can be a little time consuming.

Must be having some space for message:

There must be some space in the opening section where you can write a short message while sending out an email or newsletter to reach out and connect with the readers. If you don’t have that, the email will start to look like a broacher that the reader will be looking to dispatch without giving a read. Adding a couple of lines in the start of message will go a long way in engaging the readers.

Keep it simple:
Some emails I get from well-known brands and websites are a desperate attempt to stuff in too many links and messages in a short space. When designing a template, it is not necessary to include each and every section from your website in a short space, since too many calls of actions will only confuse the readers.
